I just bought an ALLIS-CHALMERS Model 816 GT. Couple problems, which are not apparent, are adjusting the brakes and mower belt. No brakes and the belt falls off when disengaged. I plan on getting a manual but if someone knows in the mean time. I followed the linkage for engaging the belt till I got to the pulley and did not notice an adjustment. I also looked for the brakes. Read external band but did not see it. Any help?

I am guessing that your Allis-chalmers 816 is similar to my Simplicty 7112. The manual has the full procedure for adjusting the clutch/brakes which is quite involved, but not that difficult to do. If one of your drive belts is falling off, maybe you"re missing the belt guard that keeps them in place when disengaged. There is also a curved, spring loaded lever attached to one of the pulley"s under the tractor that needs to be pulled all the way back to put tension on the mower belt. You need to get your hands on the manual - it"ll answer all your questions.

One more thing occurred to me. One of the pulley's under the tractor can be put in multiple positions (different holes on the bracket). One position is for the snowblower, and the other is for the mower. If the pulley is in the wrong position, the belt will jump loose. Again, the manual will show what is what.
