i have a cub cadet 1320 hydro that is about 6 years old. this summer, while cutting, the pin broke that holds the deck brake arm broke off and let the brake engage while the mower was still engaged. i didnt realize it for awhile, and when i finally did and fixed the arm, the blades didnt seem to spin up fast enough, and just a little bit of tall grass would bog down the engine. i took it to the local dealer, who replaced some parts that were on warenty and replaced the brake pad on the deck brake arm. however, it still does not perform like before. tall grass bogs down the mower even with sharp blades. i check to make sure they put the correct drive belt on as well, but it was fine as well. the only thing i can figure out is that the wheel that tightens the drive belt when you engage the mower doesnt seem to come over all the way...it seems it should come over to tighten the belt more. the manual doesnt have anything on adjusting it though. does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this problem solved? thanks

Okay, 3 years late on the advice but I figure someone else will encounter this problem.

I had this same problem of the belt being too loose. There is a grease fitting on the pivot for the tensioner pulley that you can't see with the deck on. I had never lubed the fitting so after about 5 years the pto belt would stay loose. I removed the bits, wire brushed the rust off, greased loads, reassembled. Now I remember to lube that fitting once a year. The pictures in the manual on lubing are of little help.

Another problem is adjusting the deck brake. If it were too tight, you would smell it quick and it would get very hot. You can see this from the side. ENGINE OFF, deck down, pto on. There should be visable room between the brake pad and the deck spindle (double pulley).

Shortly after I got my new 1320, (1990) it was recalled to replace the deck brake. I guess it didn't meet federal safety standards. I recently had to replace the deck double pulley due to shot bearings. My advice is to replace the brake at the same time with the proper mode. The newer pulley has larger bearings and is just enough different so when combined with the worn brake pad, it ate pto belts in minutes.

Im guessing that it is your pto engagement, If so there is an arm right below on the left side that the pto hooks to, take the pin from the front of the arm off and turn it clockwise this should tighten the pulley if its the same model Good luck
