Well, I finally got around to looking up the history of Case Combines in "The Heritage Eagle."
Unfortunately, it begins around the mid 50's and has nothing to do with the SP9 and SP12. I had forgotten that.

Tom, the SP-12 came out in 1948, The first ones had a mechanical header lift. It was a 12' machine that stayed in production until around 1953 when it was replaced by the 120, which was similar except it had a straight grain unloading auger and offered straw walkers, power steering, and hydraulically actuated variable speed. Both of these units used the "D" engine. The 150 came along in about 1955 and was essentially a 120 with the 400 engine. Then in 1958 the line was completly revised with the 800 and 1000 combines. The SP-9 had an "S" engine and a shorter straw rack, and a 9 foot head.

I've got Country Guide magazines going back to 1949 and there are lots of farm equipment ads in there. I'll check for Case SP combines.

Does the article mention anything about the 600 combine?

There's not a lot about specific models in this serialized article. It's mostly about testing and development. If you want to borrow my magazines, get ahold of me after the first of the year as I'm leaving for Kansas on Monday.
