I currently have 2 MH Super 27's, 92 special, 90 special, 92, Oliver 33, 2 Case 800's and a 150 (need to go get all the Cases), IH 125, JD No. 9, 2 MM G-4, 6 JD binders, MMTC threshing machine. And if anyone has any ideas on how to haul them from Stapleton, NE to Burns, WY an Oliver 545 and MM 2890. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head right now.

Re: harvesting wildflowers... in reply to gleaner63, 01-20-2008 16:40:18
Clarence,

You have a number of options for harvesting wildflowers. The best way is to set up a windrower to dispense ~4' wide brown kraft paper and have your wildflower windrow fall directly on the paper. The paper windrows have to be "tied" down to keep them from blowing away. This technique will maximize yield by catching all the seeds that shatter. You would need to use a pickup header on your combine and run everything, paper and all through your gleaner. You can, of course windrow without paper and take your losses although you can count this as volunteers for next season. The other way is to cut the flowers standing after they have dried and suffer the losses from shatter. As far a combine setup is concerned, you will probably have to block off most of the opening on your fan. I usually run the chaffer and seive(s) pretty far open to maximize yield and am not worried about getting a clean sample since the seed will need to be run through secondary cleaning. As with most things, keeping the machine loaded up helps it to work most effeciently. This is how it is done out West, perhaps other parts of the country do it differently.

Doug

1976 Gleaner K, 330 orange corn head, 12' grain head with genie height control. Combine is modified with Manchester hillside raddle, hard faced cylinder bars from St.John welding, airfoil chaffer and round hole sieve from St.John welding, high speed cleaning fan pulley (Gleaner accessory) and straw walker screens (Gleaner accessory). Picked some 210 bushel corn with it this year! Low gear about 2 to 3 mph!

Brad,do you have any pictures of the 1969 105?Is it the one that was on here? Was it the 1948 model 55 that you got in Kansas?I hope to add an early 55 to the collection this year.

You have amassed quite a collection in a short time.

That must have been a different 105. This summer I did 100 acres of oats with the 105, one breakdown involving replacing two bolts on a slip clutch.

The 1948 55 came from Oregon, in the Cascade Mountains. It had been on the same farm since new, the owner passed away 2 years ago at 92. His 91 year old wife came out to look at it on her way to bowling. (She was bragging about what a good machine it had been). It used to be a sacking machine, until their son moved away, when they put a grain tank on it. It was always shedded and in good shape.

The 1951 55 came from Kansas, that was also always on the same farm. It was western Kansas, so very well preserved. The machine was always shedded except for two nights a year or so. In 1971 the machine was retired and put away in the shed. This spring I got it started, all it took was to rebuild the carburetor and put in fresh gas.

Have a good thanksgiving. Brad

I am going to try to link to the picture of the 168. It is in the Tractor section on this site.

Winfield is featuring Combines in 2011. About time a show tried something different.

I didn't get to the Oliver 25. Too many other things going on. As soon as I figure out how to get a G4 MM back across a wsahed out creek I will be bringing it home.
