First combine I have owned since buying a model 60 All-Crop when I was 16! This is going to be fun! I need to find a platform for him before milo harvest and then we will be in the field. A neighbor was going to scrap this machine but the junker wanted $$$$ to cut it up so he gave it to me! A little fresh gas and cleaning of the carburetor and he drove home.

Nice looking machine- newer cab, must be 70-72 or newer? What's the serial number? I think my first F was a 74, #12xxx. Have two now for parts, one intended to be a self-propelled sprayer/snow blower. Good machine, easy to fix, adjust, etc. Light weight to get through the mud with fat tires. One tip- if the transmission clutch goes out and you need to remove it- you need to unbolt the frame from the left side of the axle, jack it up two inches, to get the clutch out. With mine, I called the dealer because no prying or wedging would remove it- he said on his first one he called the factory to find out. Hope you got the operator manual for pre-season checks and adjustments on bearings, chains, etc. Simple machine, but all those things need to be checked when you have time. Hope you got the pulleys and belts for high and low speed cylinder drives, small grain and corn chaffers.

It is not necessary to jack up the frame or cut part of the frame in order to remove the clutch housing. I have been working on Gleaners since 1976 and all you have to do is remove the inspection door under the bell housing and remove the six bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. The housing will come out and go back in easily when you do this and it is not difficult at all.

We had two of 'em in the 70s/early 80s; great machines. Only serious problem was the input shaft (clutch shaft)bearings which failed every couple of years. The dealer recommended that we "whittle" a little (1/4 inch or so as I remember) off the frame with a torch to make it easier to get that big housing in and out. Didn't hurt the strength of the frame that I could tell. These were of course conventional- drive machines; don't know if hydrostats were available on the F.....

Yup, my '69 F had the frame ever so slightly torched when I got it. Thise 2 bearings went out every 18 months; dad had the local machinest put it in his lath & cut it to fit some common Timkin bearings, then it lasted 24 months between replacement. I could pull the wheel, drop the tranny bell, hammer out the shaft, & get it all back together pretty quick by the time I got the F2.....

Good machine tho, just the F seemed to have too close/ too small a bearing set for the stress it got right there.

Had to replace only one tranny clutch on the F. F did come in a hydro. Had an F2 gear drive from 83 til last year, went to an M2 Hydro with a 630 head. Really fun to run that one.

Yes a nice machine Mr Cowman. Easy one to work on too.You say you got no platform with it? Might find one over at that combine salvage by wasington Ks. You are by Wellfleet? Used to haul cattle all over that state for Jacobson at Fairmont-York about 25 years ago. I will keep my eyes open here in the texas panhandle if you want me to Dave
