I just bought a JD 1240 Plateless planter. I tried it out today in the driveway and only two rows drop corn. I opened up the seed chute down to the finger pickup and it was full of seed. Some of the seed in the bottom seemed to be a little molded though. Any ideas, thanks

Pull the access cover off of the side of the planter units. The big cover that goes over the finger unit. The finger unit is most likely gummed up from sitting and the graphite lubricant. I've had one for a few years and clean each one out before starting planting. pull the chain off and you'll be able to turn the finger units by hand.

I'll try cleaning it all out. After it's cleaned should I lubricate it or just let it dry until spring?

Sounds like it is plugged up with mud at the bottom.

Check for a broken roll pin in the drive meck.
These brake when the fingers get caught on the ss wear strip. the ss strip should be changed to.
