I'm looking for parts for a model 336 john deere baler. New Parts are too expensive. Looking for
a used parts outlet.

there's not alot of sense to puttin used parts on a baler given the mechanics and functions they perform. they always break at the worst time and your chances are alot better with new parts then used.

just think about it.....
a 336 is a 70's vintage baler. certain parts are 30+ years old. they finally broke/wore now. a new part is gonna last as long. a used part is gonna last how long?

Yeh, I agree, not very wise to put used parts on a baler. Buy new!

Salvage parts are hard to find for them, as few have ended up in the yards. If new parts are too expensive for your operation, then you"re pretty much out of options.

What parts do you need? I'm not sure of any sources, 336 is pretty new and parts are still in production. Except for a plunger I've been well pleased with the cost of most parts (and fortunately was able to rebuild the plunger).

What ever did you run throuh that baler that you had to work on the plunger? I had some help from a neighbor that liked to hide things in the windrow and run a small stump through mine and all it done was broke the shear bolt!

Oh, those are fairly common here (stumps). Mine came factory without a grease fitting on the plunger. Broke the wrist pin at somewhere around 35,000 bales. Plunger went right out into the tying area..... It was bad. My dad about freaked (I was 18 at the time, borrow it from him, before it became mine).

Did it happen to become yours shortly after you did this?? Our Massey 12 has the zerk, but 1/2 the time it seems it won't take..

Yup :-). He saw that, and decided that the $1500 to fix it was too much with him in his 60"s at the time and having gone to all round bales. Told me I could have it for the bill to get it out of the shop. I"ve had it for as long as he had, well over 200,000 bales through it. Keep aiming to trade it in on a 338 but its so reliable I just hate to. I rebuilt the knotters that year and again 5 years later. They need it now (had to go to bigger twine 2 yrs ago). I"m cutting back on hay (planning on 2000 a year tops) so figure it should last me a while longer.

We went to bigger twine about 5-8 years ago on our #12. Lately we"ve been running somewhere around 3-4000 a year tops so it really isn"t worth the cost of repairing them if they work fine with the bigger 7200 twine.

Some time I should fix a bearing my dad said has been out for quite a long time before I noticed it this past year...

we have a 1972 model 336 and that grease fitting is a real bear... and everyone's right.
buy new the wear is critical to timing and tying. we had some wear in the knotter.. adjusted adjustes finally got new (yes expensive)
and problem solved.

here's an improvement in reply to edchainsaw, 12-07-2005 18:51:50
install a grease gun hose in the zerk hole and mount the hose on the crank with a zerk on the end to make greasing the plunger easier. Now my belly gets in the way.
