Home Made Box Blade

I have an old front blade (JD model 375) that came on my JD750. I've since replaced it with a loader (much more useful!) and have decided to convert the blade for use as a combination back blade/box blade. I've got most of the fabrication requirements figured out, but I do have a couple of questions:

1. How are scarifier teeth attached to a box blade?

2. Figuring on a 60" operating width, how many teeth should I use?

3. Anybody got a source for hardened teeth, perhaps as replacement units for a commercial box blade?

Any other input on the idea appreciated.

1. Either by pins or some type of clips that will allow you to quickly raise or lower.
2.5 should be plenty.
3.Are you going to make the shanks? If not I'd try and purchase as a set and get the shank and teeth together. Have to check on source.

Have you considered a cutting edge on the backside? Makes it really easy to backfill with the blade.

Thanks Jimbo. I plan to get teeth and shanks as a unit from Central Tractor. They list them in their catalog at a little under $6.00 each.

I'm playing with a design that would allow me to detach the sides of the box, remove the teeth and spin the whole rig 180 to backfill with. Gotta fire up the CAD program and see if it'll work.

Thats a great price for the shank and point. You said that was a Deere blade I beleive. The ones I sell have detachable end plates as a option. they are held in place by 3 short pins through the moldboard and secured by lynch pins. If they are not needed you can quickly take them off.
