Who makes a pull type PTO mower? I need something to pull behind a M Farmall to cut an acre of grass. I don't want the tractor to be tied up with a mounted mower. Thanks

I got an old three point bush hog from a farmer friend of mine that needed a gear replaced. I took two 1/2 X 2 steel bars and welded them to the braces on the mower removed the three point linkegs driled two holes to match up with the out side holes on my M's drawbar. I don't have any way to raise it but with the rear wheel. I mow about 15 acres been doing it for two years now . I put an over run on the PTO.6 foot does't even make it work even in the tallest weeds.good luck Dennis in MI

How big a mower will that M pull? 6-7-8?

Might try looking at howse / kk. I know howse makes some nice 10' pull types.

I used to have a 5 foot Bush Hog pull behind that I towed behind my Jeep. The jeep has a PTO, but not live. I worked, but not well. The cutting aspect was fine, but to turn required a little finesse with the clutch and so. Because of it being a trailer type, the shaft wanted to bind when you turn.

I'd go with the belly mower or even one of those swisher trail mowers if you can find a good deal on one.

Something like this? This is an IH #31. similar units were made by New Idea, Allis-chalmers, john Deere, and countless others.

No, I don't want a sickle mower, too dangerous in town. Hopefully something to pull behind without having a 3 point hitch. Is there anything made to hook to the drawbar (pin hitch) and is PTO driven?

What kind of mower? in reply to mpuller2, 01-31-2006 09:01:38
Sickle bar? Drum? Disc? Rotary brush mower? Rotary finish mower?
Brand new? Used?

Sorry, forgot the details. I'm going to mow a lot in town so a sickle bar is out of the question. A mower than could be pulled and PTO driven would be my first choice. 6,7 or 8 foot width would be nice. Hope this information helps with your suggestions. Thanks.

I'm sorry, but why do you consider a sickle mower more dangerous than a rotating blade throwing rocks, trash and the kids lost toys?
From my recent experience a pull type rotary is the most awkward thing to maneuver in a tight place.

A Woods C80 trail-type rotary mower maybe what you want. A single-acting cylinder off the Lift-All pump on your M will work on it, pressure up, gravity down, no need to plumb a return line. Some have a crank to raise and lower the wheels, but not as handy if you need to cheat a little to get over low obstacles or uneven ground.

yes he did leave it alittle open but being as he has an M you can assume there's no 3 pt and probably no hydraulics so that would eliminate alot of mowers/cutters/whatever. if the M does have atleast one hydraulic hookup then he'd have to plum a return and find a trail type sickle mower with a one way cylinder. if not then a simple pull behind something that doesn't need to be raised.
