Our local club is featuring "Corn Items" this year at the show, anything & everything to do with corn. My father has a "DAIN SAFETY CORN CUTTER" Model T2. It's in decent shape, all the metal seems to be there & some red in places (wood) but we do want to be sure of colors & scheme. It was built in Carrollton MO (from research, before 1900. In 1911 or 12 Deere bought them out & Mr. Dain was part of the "All Wheel Drive" tractor project. If anyone can help in any way, it would be appreciated. e-mail: karensteadman@hotmail.com, or Dad's ph # (814) 425-7810. Thanks Again. - ALAN

Alan I found a dain corn cutter which had been stored in a barn the paint was fadded but it was red. This one has a 2"x8" wood seat built in Ottumwa Iowa plant. Yours would be similar except it may have seperate cast 1/2 seats and the carrollton as location of mfg. You might take some parts off and find a sample of paints in the joints. I have a corn bundler built in Linneus Mo. See page 50 in Wendels book. It bundles the corn but does not tie it. It requires a horse to pull and 2 men to take the bundles to the shock.

big H: Thanks for the reply! Was the red a "milk" red? that's what Dad's looks like. Also, was there any paint left on the metal? We're not sure if the metal was JD green or black. Thanks again - ALAN

there may be a difference corn sled which had folding cutter or a corn cutter with a steel frame with wood center floor with with wheels about twice as far apart. both have the same front wheel set up,except some had double wheels. The wood on this one was fadded but was red. perhaps the J.D. archives could help with the color. big h
