Have a model 217 spreader and in dire need of a rear shaft for the apron. This is a rachet gear box with a spline shaft.

I would go ahead and get a new shaft from the dealer .Just going by the pic. and the way the spreaders I've seen sell yours would sell for $1300.00 to $1500.00.Decent ones are high at farm sales .

Might have to have one made at a machine shop.

Is that the whole shaft, or is it twisted off? If that is the whole shaft, it can be built up and turned back down. It may even be able to be fixed if it's twisted off, worst you can do is bring it to a machine shop and have them look at it. I am a machinst myself and see this kind of thing almost everyday.

Otherwise, if that shaft is twisted off, you may be better off getting that new one from AGCO, because like others said, you'd be surprised how much one of those old spreaders would bring. Even if it isn't worth it to you.

The right shop can do it. Have you checked with a dealer about replacement parts?
Just keep searching.
