Hi Guys,

Got this patch wrapped up; plowed, packed and planted.

Better get the mower out 'cause if it doesn't hail, there might even be a field or two of hay that'll need done this year. :>)

Well you done it again Allan! Got every thing lined up and finished while some of us have to wait to start. I thought I had a good start, then rain, now staying cool with showers. Thank goodness we did not get the snow they had predicted for last night. So since you are done with the fun stuff and have to wait around, bring your packer and come on up here and have some more tractor seat time. LOL Bob

Looking Good Allan! just last night I looked out on our feild from the barn, can see just a light green tint to the brown. Won"t be long now and I"ll be spending my 4th of July weekend cutting and chopping it for the silo...

Yeah, I hear that.

Have 46 acres of alfalfa that the prior owners just had to combine the seed off of last fall.

This years crop is just now starting to clear the stubble good. :>)

Beautyfull job, Allan. I've completly backed up on worry about your fields blowing. You have much diferent soil than I thought. Now, if you can just get a crop that returns close to what you spent..... ...
But no way can you loose with your enjoyment.

Mornin' Ken,

I'm so used to the soil down on the irrigated farms that I'm really disappointed in this place, to be perfectly honest about it. Maybe I should call up the tenant and see if he wants to swap farms. :>)

Its got some heavy clay spots in it that I just plain don't like.

Oh well, I said going in that it would take me 5 years to turn this old farm around. Looks like it is going to take all of that. :>(

Allan, looking good. Anybody ever tell you, you've got great luck? If you're getting this terrific rain like I'm having over here, you'll have the nicest stand of alfalfa around. Good work.

Is it raining over there?

I'm pacin' the darned floor waitin' fer it to show up.

I had plenty of moisture where I laid in the oats, but of course, need that top wetted to get the alfalfa going.

Looks like I'm going to have to plow up that patch I put in last fall. Just not a good stand at all. Will wait and see how it does this summer, but it doesn't look too good. :>(

I'll never pull that stunt again (I knew better, too). :>)

Thanks for the reply. So I suppose if you get it at the right times, with the right soil, no irrigation is necessary...? In WI , we get around 30"/year, and I think most of that is when the hay is on the ground. Every place/climate has it's plusses. Glenn

It'll probably get over your way. It started in here last night, just after I finished planting corn, and kept it up most the night. Just a nice slow rain. As far as fall seeding I've never done it. The neighbor did a half a pivot of it last fall and irrigated it up, and said he didn't get much of stand either. If you plow it up what are you going to do with it then? David

If I have to flip it, I'll do it this fall, let 'er soak over winter and then go right back in with oats and alfalfa next spring.

Should have done that to start with, but thought I could pull off a fall seeding.

Just not too impressed with that function. I'll never do it again. Too darned much winter kill on that baby stuff, I guess.

Fall seeding is about the way all of it is done here in Ohio, fall of 07 I want to get by place in alfalfa, beans this spring followed by wheat this fall and in August of 07 after the wheet is off put in the alfalfa

National weather map shows chilly weather and moisture coming your way. Don't know if they know what they are talking about. Neat job on the field.
