A little off the subject maybee but I do use various implements for planting food plots with my 860.
How many of you guys plant food plots for game and what equipment/acerage and type of food do you plant?

In southern Indiana, Quail Unlimited gives out free seed mix to plant for wildlife. It is suppose to be suited for all wildlife. We just disc up a sight, broad cast the seed and run over it with a cultipacker. Results are good, it doesn't all come in at once and keeps the browsers busy all year long (right into gun season...)

Here in Iowa, I'd rather use my 861 to run over them than to feed them. Iowa City hired a professional sharpshooting company to kill 300 head of them within the city limits last month. You can come pick up all you want around here before real planting season starts!

I don't plant any food for the deer but I do let a local farmer. He plants 45 acres of field corn and to top it off of he pays me for letting him. The field is completely surrounded by woods and the deer do a number on the first five plus rows.

I usually just disk areas( in streaks) near the woods lines The state Game & Fish did furnish seed. It was made up of red ripper peas, soy beans, milo, black beans, millet, pop corn, sweet corn or field corn. Last few years I have mixed crowder peas(any variety) soy beans, field corn.pop corn, milo. Usually go to seed store and get what garden seed (reduced cost) they have left over from last year and just mix and broadcast and then disk it in.

soybean yields down 50%, corn yields down 30%. . . .We're overrun with deer, killin' 'em left and right with state permission, and these guys have to feed theirs! Go figure. . . .
