So,

Nimrod that I am, I decide to adjust the preload on the wobble box crankshaft bearings on my NH swather.

I'm certain that I've done dirtier jobs before, just can't remember when.

You guys ever tackled this?

Outer bearing was bad enough, but that inner joker was just plain mean! I'm almost certain that I got a glimpse of it one time at about 2pm. Talk about burying an adjustment down inside a black hole! :>(

Okay, rant over.

Allan

Not sure about your set up, but I'm guessing mine is close the same. I've broke the wobble crankshaft once. Talk about a mess. All the bearings and drive pully has to come off, then unhook the wobble shaft from a shaft that runs to the opposite side of the swather and there is another wobble box on the other end that drives the sickle on the opposite end. It took me a full day of down time when that baby went.

By the way Allan, on the $6K hydroswing I now realize I had no idea what I was talking about. I've never seen one like the one you pictured. I was thinking something more along these lines.

Cowman if you lived over here in Southwest Mo, where Harley, Paul Shuler, Walter Squires, and my self do after you dug a couple of corner post holes by hand you might have some left also. The big boys with their augers don't always get them down unless they have a rock auger. You can have the most rock free soil, and there is not much of that, and 24 inches down hit solid limestone. Yes us that have farmed most of our lives have replaced the 10 ft. gates, but there are a lot of 12 ft left. Before I quit farming I didn't replace any thing with less than a 20 ft, unless I had another way I could go with out one. then went 16ft.

We don't have any 10 ft. gates, but I'm pretty sure we have one gate that we may have troubles with our new 14' machine. I think the gate might be 14', could be 15. Not really sure but with a 12' cultivator it gets pretty tight. Now take a 14' cut plus the extra 6 inches or so on each end.... DOH!

Hey Don,

Betcha you can hit it at an angle and use your "swing" to wiggle it thru. :>)

I've been replacin' narrow gates for almost a year now. Still have one 10 footer to go.

I already have to do that just to get it between the milk house and the shed!! It just bare;y squeezes thru, and it may occasionally rub on the big post from the shed.... OOPS!!! Looks like that old shed's gotta come down....
