Keep My Mouth Shut?

Mornin' All,

Six months ago, I bought this old hay sled from the local implement dealer. Told 'em there was absolutely no hurry on it as I wouldn't need it until haying season; However, please fix the bad bearing on one of the ground rollers and put on the one missing chain.

Anyway, last night I stop by to see how it is coming along and I think there might have been some miscommunication or something.

The sled is setting out in the "customer pickup row", the missing chain has been put on and all the rest have been adjusted. In addition, I can see where they have cleaned, repacked/lubed and generally "serviced" all the wheels and tires.

Really didn't expect all that, plus that little $10 bearing in the ground roller is still missing.

Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut? Will the thing work okay on dry hay ground with one ground-roller bearing gone?

These guys are nothing short of terrific when it comes to customer service, but this is their busy time of year and I really hate to whine about that one little bearing that they overlooked.

Would you bring it up or just let it go and fix it later yourself?

Allan

You're just gonna hauls bales, right? That ole Leyman will run forever with a bearing out.

Yes Sir,

All I wanna do it haul the hay in to the stack yard from the field. I just cannot stand hay left out in the field.

Must be my "irrigators" past 'er something. :>(

I guess. I like to get it moved right away too. Just looks shiftless otherwise. The exception I make is grass hay and sometimes cane. I figure it's safer from lightning scattered out in the field. (and I have had bales burn up)

Hey Allan,
I don`t think it would hurt to ask. Otherwise when you pick it up ask if they have the parts available to fix it yourself. These are busy guys, and something could easily get overlooked. They may actually appreciate the chance to complete the job to your satisfaction.
Alot of it is how you come off when inquiring. You seem to me to be someone who can communicate well, and I don`t think you`ll be taken as pushy.

Just came from the dealer.

Asked him what was going on and he says it is ready to work. I tell him that the roller hasn't been fixed. He says oh, yes it has; seen it myself.

Anyway, we go out and take a look. They had put new "chain rollers" on the back of the teeth, totally went thru the tire/wheel end of it, put in new u-joints and yokes on the PTO and fixed/adjusted those big chains.

Completely missed the tilt ground roller and said they'd run 'er back in the shop.

I told him no, to just forget it. Heck, ol' nimrod me can fix that little $3 bearing and besides, they are busy with other bigger stuff. :>)

Yeah, looks like you got it all handled. Good luck with it in the field. BTW, do you know the definition of 'nimrod'. It means mighty hunter in some indian language. I always thought it was a term used to call someone dense or dumb. I was at a funeral and they had the pictures of the deceased. There was a newspaper article titled "Local Nimrod Bags Record Whitetail".
I thought, wow, they must`ve really not liked the guy to use that as a title. So I searched the word, then the title on the article made sense. Useless info, I know, but what the heck.
Have a great weekend. Brokenwrench

Ah, Allan, it's going to rain so much once you get that first cutting laid down that you'll have plenty of time to fix it. Then when you get done send some of that rain down here. ;)

Mornin' Rick,

I have no idea what they are worth and I probably paid way to much for it, but it fits my needs.

They had 5 of the old pigs setting there last winter and I just bought the best of the lot. This one has the hydraulic reverser, which is kinda nice.

No, no suspension to 'em; just a tilt sled on four fat tires. They peeled me $2500 on this one.

well it looks like they took all the fun out of it for you. So just go ahead and replace that bearing and then shoot the paint to it.

Yeah,

They really went "above and beyond" on the darned old thing. I'm just worried about pokin' it under a stack with that bad roller and I really don't have time to fix it myself right now.

Will it still load/unload with one roller hangin' sideways? If so, I'm gonna just leave these fellas alone 'cause they've got other fish to fry.

Thanks,

Allan
