I recently bought a used Case grain drill with grass boxes - probably a 1950's something vintage. It is in pretty good repair but mice have caused some rust area in the feed gears. I have blown out the residue but am not sure about obstructions in the drop tubes. How bad of an idea would it be to put sand in the boxes and drag it around the field until the sand and or rust is gone? Has anybody tried this? I would use alfalfa seed to polish the boxes but my wife says that would be too expensive. Thanks dick

When I tried that it kept plugging up on some of the seed tubes. I had better luck to wash out with a water hose and then when water dried I wet it back down for storage with diesel.
