Is it possible and/or worth the trouble to change a wire baler to twine? if the baler could be bought for say 2-3K. I have been told it cast about 3k to change one, true?

I have the same baler JD 346 and would like to convert to twine. Did you get an answer on the cost and feasability?

In my opinion, go find a twine baler. The conversion would be a nightmare for the unskilled and not much easier if a guy was trained to work on balers.

Why in the world would you want to bale with twine? I grew up with square bales and we would refuse to haul them if they were twine. My dad and I always put up 4-5,000 bales a year. The mice never chewed any of the wires in two. Just my two cents worth.

I've never used a wire baler, but with the price of steel today, I can't imagine that tieing with wire would be very economical. When a fella starts doing 20 or 30 thousand bales, a rather small price difference adds up.
Wouldn't argue the point about mice chewing the strings off though....
