My Father has a 50T he bought new when he was 15 (is now 70). He thinks it's time to send it down the road and we were wondering if it had any antique value. It still works great, has a Cub engine on it and has been kept inside. Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks

I think different people have different experiences with IH balers. I hear all the time about what junk they are, but I have a model 430 that works great. It does miss from time to time, as many balers do, but otherwise runs very smoothly and ties a nice, tight bale. It actually does a better job than a friends much newer JD 327.

Plenty of folks will want it for that cub engine if nothing else, and several IH collectors might want the whole thing. I'd start by advertising it at around $500 or offer. See what happens.

IH balers "are way down the list" compared to the New Hollands or John Deeres. I've picked bales from NH and IH to stack on the wagons. IH bales are like mush and need very gentle handling or the twine pulls off. To understand this you need to look at how the pressure is put on the hay on the IH as compared to NH or JD. Once you see and understand that pressure application, it is quite obvious why the IH is inferior. Sell the Cub engine and send the rest down the road to the junk man.

If I were closer to you, I would be interested in that baler to pull behind my 9N. It doesnt have enuf power to both pull and run a baler on the PTO but a self powered baler would be perfect! I just have a few acres I"d bale so speed, etc is not that important to me. Would just be doing it for the fun of it mainly.
Put a note in on the N Board, somebody like me might be interested in it.
