On a john deere 44 plow can you change the size of the plow by putting the frog on the other side of the frame?

If you have the large frame plow yes you can change from 14" to 16" and back again. The 44 plow is the only model that John Deere made that could be changed. You do NOT move the bottoms or frogs tho, just the short approximatly 2'vertical section of the beam , back bottom to front and front bottom to back as the angle of the ends of that part of the beams keeps you from turning them around, moving them to the opposite bottom changes the offset from in on both for 14" to out on both for 16". You also turn the furrow wheel to the inward, narrow setting for 14" but for 16" you reverce the wheel to the outward setting. This John Deere is the only plow made that you can do that with altho Oliver and Coop both did make plows you could change the width of cut on but they had other ways of doing it.

Bolt pattern on wheels? The wheels on a JD 44 plow are spoke with a straight thru hole in hub that slides over a bearing that is just held on with like a roll pin. The operators manual tells to do what I said. The rim is offset 1" to the side of the hub and reversing gives you 2" the same as the difference in furrow width. Do you have a 444 plow instead of a 44?

The bolt pattern I am talking about is the three bolts that need to be removed to get to the bearing and pin. They are not evenly spaced in the wheel or the caps. Found that out when I put mine back together after total dismantling and painting it. Wound up with furrow wheel way out there!

That furrow wheel is reversable, in for the smaller setting and out for the larger setting and the bolt holes ard not put evenly around the hub but 2 of them are closser for some reason that I do not know. But to change the wheel setting you take off the hub cap and the flange cap and put them on the opposite side of the rim. You just have to keep turning the caps till you find where the bolt holes align up. That wheel is not interchangeable with the land wheel as the land wheel is not offset. You also have to slide the tail wheel as well to get it aligned up. Easy on the 44 plow but the 44 with the carry crazy wheel that plow has an extra letter in the number that I do not know offhand or for sure how you change that tail wheel but the operators manual will tell you.

36 A: I would think not, most plow beams go right to the bottom of the frog, thus if you bolted the frog on the other side of beam, you'd loose the flat surface for attaching the landside. Another factor, most plow beams are tapered, being perpendicular on the left but not on right.

I"m not sure if you mean the entire bottom assembly or just the frog. Just moving the frog will not do it. You need to change the entire bottom assembly by moving the vertical part of the beam that extends downward to the frog itself. It amounts to putting the front bottom assembly where the rear one is and the rear one where the front one is.
