They should be glad to just give it to you Allan. Seen a 42 footer only bring $800 and not sure they let it go? For our soil here they were a iffy machine and I'd rather just run sweeps or field cultivator light with spiked treaders on back instead of harrows and be sure the weeds are gone in case a rain sneaks in overnight.

Allen, it's been almost 30 years since I pulled a rod weeder, and even then a 24 foot rod was considered small. I think we used a 36' unit. I suppose it depends a lot on the condition of the moving parts and teeth (if it has any teeth). I can imagine you could end up spending more money fixing one up than you paid for it in the first place.

Well that would be typical of Allan wouldn't it. He always is fixing up what ever he buys.

I had a 24' Morris rod weeder when I sold out in 1995. Got $150 for it. A few people were still using them around here, but 24' was just too small!

Don't know what they are worth, but the last couple of years have seen several go for iron price. About 300. Never know when one will show up at consignment sales. Since the soil bank thing, dry land machines are all most give away. Best summer fallow machine there is.

Sale at Briggsdale is marked.

Only machine I know that kills EVERY weed. Unless it rains that day on it. Kind of shakes their roots loose. Firms the ground up just a little too. leaves ground level and smooth by our wheat farming standards for planting.

Most still farming are useing like 42 footers.

Hi Ol' Bud,

It's used as the last pass to prepare the seedbed for winter wheat.

That rod spins backwards just under the surface of the ground. It lifts any weeds that may be present and it saves moisture because it doesn't disturb the soil to any great extent.

Dunno Vern,

We don't farm rocks here. Any rocky stuff gets pastured off and left that way. :>)
