Got the guy his 806 back and took his Fox 3000 chopper in trade for the work I did on it. Got a pickup head and a 2 row corn head as well. Plus all the manuals. So in the true spirt of Allen in NE I will be going right through this bad boy to be ready to chop grass in the beginning of May. Looks like it really only needs a few little things and a good sharpening and it'll be ready to roll.

Geeze, I'm gone for a week and all this stuff happens!!! Looks good, We go through ours every year and fix a little more on it. I gotta ask though, do ya have the splined hub and tie rod for sharpening the knives? Those stones are kinda expensive too, so take 'em off after every use. Water will make the stone come right off the steel plate.

Things to check for wear are:

Lifting linkage

Apron chain

Gathering chain

drive chains

drive sprockets.

other chains

knives

shear bar (should be able to reverse it if not done so already)

chains

belts

spout lining

blower band

pick-up teeth

tension springs for feeder rolls

grease lines

drive chains.....

If ya need any parts, go right to Hiniker, they own the name now. We buy directly form them for our 3000, and if they don't have the parts they'll point you to a guy who does.

Any other questions, I'll try to help. Still learning with ours but I've been running it for a good 4-6 years now, and another fox before that one.

I've got it in the shop right now. So far I'm really impressed on well this machine was taken care of. I knew the guy I got it from wasn't afraid of regular maintinence. All the chains were well oiled when I got it. Every grease fitting took grease, All the belts are in good shape. The knives are in fair condition, sharp with a few stone nicks. The blower band and chute liners have one season on them. The only things that it needs are a spring for the chute deflector, a spring for the sliding wagon hitch, a feed roll spring, and about 30 pickup head teeth. The corn head just needs new knives. I do not as of yet have the splined hub and tie rod for the sharpener(the former owner is looking for it). There is a dealer just into Pennsylvainia bout an hour from here that can still get me any of the parts I need for it. I will give you a shout if I run into any snags. Thanks

Make sure the chains aren't stretched out though. Ours was maintained ok, but the lift linkage is a little worn, espescially on the ones that the flexable grease lines broke off. I fixed all those after buying some new flexable line from the Ace hardware and a few extra compression fittings.

The gathering chains on the corn head are more than likely stretched out too unless they were replaced recently. We just did ours last season after breaking one near the end of th corn in 05 and putting a different style on to get us through. On ours the blower band blew out (I think that was during corn of 05 as well) but we stole the newer one off our older fox out behind the barn. maybe 1 1/2 hours downtime and i was chopping again until the clutch blew out on our 1855. 2005 was a rough year with break downs but we still made ok time with most repairs being small. We switched tractors the next day and kept going with the 1855 on the bagger instead and got it fixed after.

Also kinda curious- is your corn head a 2 row wide or narrow? ours is a wide but we have 32" rows. It works fine but not sure what would happen if we went to 30" with a different planter.

Yes the electric motor is for sharpening. Kinda hard to do in field but still looks like a good system.

I've seen a lot of silage go thru a Fox chopper with a good ole Massey Ferguson 65 pullin' it. They are one corn/hay eatin' machine. Good luck.

Thanks Allen. That Poor man is just trying to make a living off of milking cows. I did the clutch, TA and head on his turboed 806 and gave him the best deal I could on the work but he was still $750 short and this chopper was the only thing that we could I agree on. Although I do feel a bit guilty, but I'm sure he'll be back for more service and I can make it up to him then.
