There is nothing wrong with a 27 baler. This is the smallest capacity baler that IH made in that timeframe. They also made a 37 and 47. If the baler gives you any problems with the knotters, the problem is most likely the twine knife (must be sharp) or the duck bill (wears through the chrome and rusts after a lot of bales). These knotters are easy to work on and adjust as long as you can read a book. The adjustment book is still available and is very helpful. I bought my 37 about 7 years ago and make 600 to 1000 bales a year. I replaced the twine knives when I bought it, adjusted according to the book and have not touched it since. It does not miss a bale, ever. I still have my gandads 46 that he and Dad used to custom bale with. I know I can take it to the feild and not miss a bale. Josh, not sure what planet you are on, but CNH still supplies just about any part that you would want for this baler. Any JD that you get for under $500 is not going to be any better of a baler than the IH. The NH balers may have better knotters, but you better enjoy loose banna bales. I have little use for the old NH.
