Baler for Ford 5000

I own a '66 Diesel Ford 5000; about 50-55 PTO hp and Cat II lift. I'll need to bail some hay this summer (200 acres), and I'm told it can be hard to get custom bailing done in a timely fashion and so I'm wondering what size/kind of bailer would fit and work well for this tractor? I'm assuming it will end up being an older baler since I have a smaller tractor and limited funds. Small or large square bails would be fine. Thanks!

If that Ford is healthy and you have that much to do, I would suggest at least a Deere 24T (or newer/bigger) or a NH 268 (or newer/bigger).

The Deere 14T is a good machine, no question about that, but the Deere parts guy I used to go to said the 24T was better and a higher capacity machine. I like our NH 68 but if we had another 20 hp it would be nice to have more capacity, which the newer rigs do.

I SAY YOU SHOULD TRY TO FIND A NEWHOLLAND 376, USE ONE OF THESE WITH A FORD 5000 FOR YEARS ON A FARM IN THE UK

We had good luck with a John Deere 14T and 214T behind the 5000. Make sure the knotter knives are sharp as well as the plunger knife. Verify baler time (easy to do w/ owner manual) and there is good drag on the needle brake. We also baled hay with a NAA and 851, the live power on the 5000 was a treat.

Although for 200 acres, I'd think newer before older.

New Holland 311, maybe a 316, JD 327 or 328.

Will you be using a bale thrower and towing wagons or will you be picking them up off the ground?

Here in central New Jersey, 200 acres of 1st cut timothy, properly fertilized, will produce 30,000 or more small square bales.

Here in SW Oklahoma, I don't think we'll see that kind of yield! I'm just trying to figure this stuff out, but it seems that most of the newer balers seem oriented towards the larger hp tractors with CatIII lifts. Plus, the amount of money I'd have to pay for a relatively new would be tough to come up with. I'll look on the NH or JD site and see if they have any smaller tractor baler's available. Thanks!
