Was wondering, what was the model of the New Holland self propelled baler they made in the 60's? I can remember them being advertised in the farm magazines as a kid. I suspect they would make a nice collector item now. But they sure must of been a dirty bugger to operate.

The first one bult, was the 166. Thats the one MFPoor and Chrisco both show pictures of. It was built from 01-01-1956 til 12-31-1957. The last one built was the 1426. Production of the 1426 ended on 07-31-1984. Between the 166 & 1426 you had the 178,1280,1281,1290,1282,1283 & 1425.

It's been quite awhile since I've seen one, but if I remember correctly New Holland had the 1280 and 1282 Hayliner in a self propelled version. They could be purchased with cab and a/c also. They had a Ford engine I think it was a four cylinder.

Here's another picture of a New Holland SP baler. I don't know much about it other than it was at a parade I went to several years ago. As shiny as it is, the owner still bales with it at shows.

I have one like the top pic that Chrisco posted. My father in law gave it to me and I used it for a couple of years and when it worked, it was great, but it was just too worn out. In it's day though it was a cadillac with lots of cool features and you didn't have to look backwards all the time to keep an eye on things.
