How do I identify this plow, year etc. It's got IHC stamped on the frame rails on top of each other inside the C, it's also got manually adjustable wheels with 2 levers that reach to the drivers position (possibly 5')so you don't have to get off the tractor, (I'd guess), it also has one (maybe 3 ft) steel spoked wheel on the left and another (maybe 18") wheel on the left, there is also a 12" swivel wheel in the back. It was very rusty, but, I believe it originally was red w/yellow wheels. Approximate overall dimensions are 15' long, 5' wide and 3' high, not counting the levers, I cleaned it up and didn't find any real ID plate on it, but, it did have some part #'s on the rails which are PO17184, PO12572, PO12813. Can anybody give me any idea of the vintage of this beast, and if it would've possibly been used behind a Farmall F20 or is that to small?

Rich, The part numbers that you gave are common to the #3, #4, #8, #8-L, #10, #11 and #14 McCormick plows. Yours being a 3 bottom plow says that you have a #8, #8-L, #10 or #14. The #8 and #8-L being the most popular models. Base price of a #8 plow with 3-14" bottoms in 1950 was $315.00. They were built from 1928-1960. I would guess yours to be of WW11 vintage, just a wag. Hope this information helps you.

Thanks "Sammy the Red", for helping me remember the years it was built. I was close to it!

The way you described it, it sounds like it is a Little Genius NO.8 plow. The year of it may be hard to find because I think that they started making it around the 1930's to the 1960's. The colors of it are, the beams, levers, hitching plates are IH red, the wheel axles the rear lock, clutch and trip rod, and axle holder are Blue, the three wheels are white, and the hitch, and the lifting springs are black. If you would like a picture of mine and how I painted it you can email me, wetgense69@hotmail.com ,the wheel sizes were Land wheel 32", furrow wheel 22", and the trailing wheel 19". The IH plows I think didn't have ID plates. The #'s were just for ordering purposes, say if one twisted form hiting something, you could order a new one. I think that an F-20 could of pulled it if the tractor had maxium HP, and if the ground conditions were good, but a 3 bottom was made for an F-30 tractor, or a Farmall M. I hope this helps! I you do have any questions feel free to email them to me.

Plowman,
Thanks for the response, I thought mine looked a little bland, maybe with a few more colors it'll look like something!! I couldn't get into your site though, it tried to get me to sign up for hotmail and that's as far as I got, any suggestions, I'd like to see it. Thanks again, Rich L
