According to a blue book info the JD pull type 42 combines were made 1961-1966. Called a 42 because of 42 bushel grain bin. Had 9 ft. header and 20" x 26" cylinder. 3175 was made in 1963 and 4047 in 1964. Serial numbers for 1961 began at 501, 1962 at 1501, 1963 at 3001, 1964 at 4001, 1965 at 5001, 1966 at 6001.

Are they the round back or the square back? The change from the round back to square back was at the end of the 63 model year with 64 being a square back the same as the change on any of the 2 digit series of combines. I think they started production with the hi-lo series in 1960 and ended with the last of the square back series in 1969 but iI am not sure if they were made for the entire time of the 45's or not. Now the 45 series started in mid 50's as a high machine but the 40-42 was not made till the hi-lo series round back.
