We've bought a 6 ft Leinbach disc harrow for garden work behind a 420 JD tractor and we want to experiment with trying set it to up to help us form raised beds. It has four discs on each side on the front turning the soil out and four on each side in the rear turning the soil back in. We want to try removing the two pairs of outside discs on the front and the two inside pairs on the rear. It looks like a single shaft with nuts on each end run clear thru each set of four discs. First, can we use it with half of the total discs removed, and second what could we do about spacers to take the place of the removed pieces on the shafts. We're pretty clueless about whether this will work, anyway. Any ideas? Thanks

use big washers for spacers. You can get them at a local farm store-QF&F, TSC.

The only trick will be getting the disc leveled enough front to back. It depends on the style of the disc on how it levels out. If the front goes clear to the ground since there isn't any front blades you might have to make some sort of bracket to lock the front of the disc to the hitch. But with some modifications, if needed, I don't see why it won't work.

It may take awile to make a raised mound, the disc doesn't throw much dirt in a pass with the angle they are currently set at. There are special impliments to make ridges. They are basically two large disc blades angeled twords eachother at a pretty good angle so they throw a lot of dirt. Shouldn't be too expensive, compared to a disc like you're going to try to use.

The shaft that runs through the center of the blades is square. You can remove the nuts on the end of the shafts, slide it out and remove the blades. You will have to install a spacer to get everything back in the correct location. Good luck.
