I was wondering how big of a brushhog a 185 allis can power. Someone told me a 15 foot batwing. I think a 10 foot efficently not much bigger though. Looking to get into the business and need your advice. Thank you in advance

That tractor will handle 15 footer anywhere. 15 foot is easier to pull than a 10 footer. I know I have one of each. The 15 footer has more momentumonce it is turning and requires less power from the tractor. Kinda like the flywheel on a baler. Many farmers here pull them behind 50 HP tractors. They mow bushes, hills and anything anyone else mows. Farmall M will handle a 15 footer.

All depends on how your gonna use it.

If your just clipping pastures go for the 15'.
I pull mine with a IH 560 and get along fine.

If your going into 5' tall weeds that are thick, a 7 footer will be a load.

Allis Chalmers 185 General tractor information: Manufacturer: Allis Chalmers Model: 185 Type: Farm/Agricultural tractor Model: 185 Years produced: 1970 - 1981 Total built: Factory: Original price: $18,891 Tractor power: Drawbar (rated): 65.0 hp [48.5 kW] Drawbar (max): 63.8 hp [47.6 kW] PTO (max): 74.9 hp [55.9 kW] PTO (rated): 74.87 hp [55.8 kW] Engine: Manufacturer: Allis-Chalmers Fuel: diesel Cylinders: 6 Bore/Stroke: 3.875x4.25 inches [98 x 108 mm] Displacement: 301 ci [4.9 L] Compression: 16.25:1 Rated RPMs: 2200 Cooling: liquid Torque: Firing order: 1-5-3-6-2-4 Oil capacity: 11 qts [10.4 L] Transmission: Type: constant mesh Forward: 8 Reverse: 2 Transmission: Type: Forward: 4 Reverse: 1 Going on this info. I would say a 10ft would be the way to go. I don't believe this is enough HP to run a batwing mower. It may actually run the mower, but you would be asking alot out of a tractor that's under 100 hp

I'm sure there's others that will disagree with me. This is just my opinion.. I would stay with the 10 ft.
