DCW,
Is that connecting bracket just a piece of round stock bent at 90 degrees on each end? The upper bracket for the wheel had been broken once I had it welded. I am concerned that it will break again if I use it with out the lower bracket. Does that rear wheel control depth or does it ride in the furrow to keep the plow from going sideways so to speak?

According to the pic,its a piece of flat stock, bent on a dog-leg close to one end.I can't tell if its a cast piece,or if its simply stamped steel.

If I could print the page,I would, the wheel rides along in the furrow, apparently it helps set the depth of the cut.I'm more mechanic than farmer,I could fix or even restore those plows, but actually using them is another story.

If the plow has rigid beams, this wheel is mounted rigid. If its trip beams, the wheel is on a pivot.

The piece your missing is shaped like a field hockey stick(if you can envision that),with the crook towards the beam, curl pointed up.

Butch,I answered your query.I have a set up manual for this plow, strangely enough. The bracket your missing allows the tailwheel to swing upwards with the rear swinging beam,if its a trip plow.Apparently, the 211 and 311 plows could be bought rigid or trip.

Without it,if the rear beam went upwards, the tailwheel could swing underneath it.As I understand it.

My setup manual is dated November 1959.
