Does anyone know any history of the Collins Plow Co. of Quincy Ill. They made plows and hay presses and a few other pieces of equipment. I know they were in business in 1910, but wonder when they started and how long they were in business. Also I would really like to see a picture of one of their plows. Thanks for any help. Bob

I am pretty sure the Collins Plow Co. was started towards the end of the Civil War. William H. Collins was the founder and he was born in Collinsville, Illinois in 1831. Hope this helped! I'm also looking for information and possibly a geneology link to him.

According to family members, my great-great-grandfather, Philip Jacob Merkel, moved from Mead(e)ville, PA, where he worked for Collins Plow Company. Supposedly he and his family (wife Barbara and children) relocated to Quincy, IL (ca. 1866) when Collins moved there. He was a plowmaker by trade.

Recently found a Jumbo Hay Press built by Collins Plow Co in Quincy, IL. The owner claims it at least 100 years old. All wood construction, I think wood spoke wheels. Was operated by a Steam Traction Engine. Looking for information on the Company and or any information on the Hay Press. Source of manuals, sales literature, etc.

Many Thanks
