New holland 66- dad's old baler

I just brought up dad's old baler, it has sat for years partially covered. I remember baling a lot of hay with it when I was young. He said it was a 66, but it is PTO driven and the manual shows an independent motor. Did they make both kinds? It is pretty worn, but I still want to fix it up. Are there any other model NH balers that have similar parts? I plan to start getting it back in shape this spring.

Thanks, Kurt

There is an article in the latest Farm & Dairy here in Ohio of a New Holland 66 self-powered baler. Apparently, they only made a few of them, most were shipped to Iowa.

The number is actually 166 and they used two Winsconsin 2 cylinder engines

There is a 66 and then the Super 66 that is newer but most parts are the same with the most difference in the pickup and the knotters have a different measuring setup, knotters the same tho. Have both a 66 and a super 66 setting here and some day have plans to combine the two to make one good baler and have yet to figure out the difference in the pickups yet except the color

Hi My dad had a NH 66 baler when I was young . It worked real well. I baled a lot of hay with it in early 60"s. It didn"t make banana bales. It had wooden wear guides on the plunger. One time they swelled up with dampness (We lived near coast) and then we had a horrible time to get it freed up. It was a very good baler with Wisconsin engine. Have fun. Jim

They had both engine and pto. The knotters are the same or about the same for later balers. I took the knotters off the junk one I have and gave them to the guy who bought my 67. The auger cross feed is unique to that baler. The gear box is different, I was told by dealer, not sure what the difference is. I think the gear box is the same on engine and pto balers. Appearantly the wooden wadboard is rare. BIL had a 66 and I think it did not make banana bales like my 67 did, but I'm not sure. The 66 has bushings instead of bearings in the wheels. If you were close enough to me in SC you would be welcome to parts off mine.
