My wife has told me that I can no longer keep my post hole auger, three point hitch, laying on the ground beside the barn. I'd like to build a support frame to rest it on when not in use. Does anyone have an idea or a plan on how to do this? Thanks, Marc

My local Oliver dealer recommends that you drill about 1/3 of the way into the ground, and disconnect from the auger and drive away.

That way the drill stays upright for you, and you can back up to it and mount it.

Hmmm...I dont have a post hole digger...although I keep looking out back everytime I check out a new dealer. Anyway...how about a hole to just lower the auger into....wouldn't this keep the beast upright? Not really knowin...just wondrin.

Good Luck

If you decide to build a frame to hang it on please keep safety in mind. Young children have a knack for finding anything unsafe aroud the farm. An unstable frame with an auger hanging from it could be devistating.

Not long ago I saw an angle iron framework in successful farming magazine for just this purpose. It was a home built unit that was described and pictured on the "all around the farm" ideas page. designed to back into and lower the three point augur onto and unhitch...simple as that.

We took a come-a-long and , with a short chain, hooked it to a rafter in our barn. Then took some REAL HEAVY wire and wrapped it around the main beam on the digger with enough room under it to get the bottom hook hooked to it. This works real good when putting it on and taking it off the tractor. Just use the lift to get the hook out. Hope this helps. E-mail me if you have any questions.
