when the knotter hub rotates it seems to hang when it hits the clutch pawl roller. any ideas

try jerking back on the needle drag link on the other side (right side), this should put the clutch paw firmly against the stop of the clutch. if that stops the jerking of the chain, maybe the brake is too tight on the knotter stack. or possibly the brake is too loose or worn out and allows the knotter to bounce back. anyway. thats a start.

Almost sounds like the roller has a flat spot or something is bound up in there. It's almost always an easy fix, it's just finding it that's the bear sometimes.

Is clutch pawl roller stuck or does it turn freely? Is the knotter assembly well greased? If roller is stuck has it worn a rough spot on the cam? It's been a while since I worked of a NH knotter so I'm just tossing out ideas.
