Hello All!

I had posted in regards to getting some #5 mowers I picked up last year running, and thanks to the help here, I was able to use it on my Farmall M with only a few problems (operator error for the most part)

I originally bought both mowers, one to use and one for parts. But I now also just picked up a few Farmall H's, and I have the idea in my head to take the "parts" mower and fix it up so it could be used.
Now I have a few issues.
1. Does anyone know of a source for the cast bracket that a hydraulic cylinder would mount to? The previous owner had cobbed something up, but its not going to work any longer, and I would need that bracket to mount a cylinder on.

2. One of the mowers came with the flat bar (which I use on my M), and the other came with the "Quick Tach" brackets from John Deere. Should I try and trade someone for a flat bar, or try to make a means of attachment? Does anyone have any pictures of plans of how they would make something that would work? I dont have a welder so I would have to have a local shop fab something up.
Thanks in advance for any info, its very much appreciated!

Bug

I have some parts and also know where a couple of those mowers are at a junk yard near Oklahoma city.

John,
Which bushing are you referring to?

Hi Dave.

Once the ice clears up if you could send me a picture of your bracket, that would be quite helpful! I would definitely like to see how you have it hooked up.
I would be interested in the bracket, but I dont want to leave you without something you might need in the future. I know they can be trouble to keep up with, but for what I need (mowing hedgerows mostly) they certainly fit the bill!

I might have a bracket I could let you have from one of my mowers. I need to get out there but it is pretty icey at the moment. I have used these mowers to cut hay for the last several years and I am pretty much done with them. I use the mowers with the quick attach arms on a Farmall SMTA. I made a bracket. The bracket is simply a flat piece of 1/2" steel in a rectangle shape. It has holes in it that match the drawbar and I use three bolts to keep it there. One long edge of this piece has a piece of round steel welded long ways so that it extends about 4" past each side of the flat piece. The arms clamp onto this. Real easy and works great. Wish I could say the same about the mowers which have frequently been difficult to maintain. If you use the setup above, you will need a longer PTO shaft. Pull the original shaft and take it up to your local "in the field" equipment repair guy and he will make you a nice new one. If you want more specifics, post back to me in a new thread and I will try to help.

We ran one years ago on a farmall 140 W/fast hitch. We had some shelby tubing welded to the point for an adapter.
Instead of a hydraulic cylinder we used some 3/8th cable hooked to the front rock shaft, that worked pretty good.

i've heard that the bushing used to mount the # 5 mower would wear out in short order. i would think it would be easier to mount it to a flat bar and then bolt that to the tractor.
