I am looking at an old 2 row IH pull type corn planter. It has no ID plates on it so I am going on what the seller tells me it is.It is generally in a good but rusty state, which I guess can be expected. It has hoppers for both seed and fertilizer. He has all new boxes and a varity of plates . The seed hoppers appear to work OK . The fertilizer hoppers seem tough to turn and I am concerned that parts may need to be replaced . I 'd like to know if anyone knows if I can get parts for this type of planter or shoud I be looking for something in alittle better condition?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks Alan

It depends on what parts they are. If the drive gears are the problem you could weld up a narrow bead on the teeth that way the teeth are the right size again. I have done this on my drive gears to the seed boxes with an old stick welder, then I took a small file and smoothed the sides down. You can do this process if you have a welder. Turn it down the heat so it doesn't melt the cast iron and not to cold to where it won't hold. That looks to be holding pretty good,(knock on wood!) You will have to tell me what part it is if I am wrong, that way i can maybe help you more. By the way your planter sounds familiar if you discribe it more in detail I might find the model #.

Yer right, and it could just be rust or corrosion built up on the disributer shafts that are making it turn hard.
