Is a JD Model 9 sickle mower worth anything?

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me out. We live on my dad's family's old farm land though it's not a working farm anymore. We just did a major restoration to the barn and were going to start cleaning up some stuff from there and the fields. My dad passed away suddenly in November so now the job is left to my husband, mother and me.

I have a JD Model 9 sickle mower that I don't know if we should junk or if it's worth selling for a few bucks. Didn't know if anyone still used these. It says model 9 on the plate and I can get a serial number. I'm trying to figure out how old it is. The little arm that I think connects to the PTO moves free, and all the teeth are on the cutting arm. That's about all I know of it right now. I do have pictures if that would help.

I'm just trying to decide if I should try to sell it or just let the junk guy scrap it. Seems a shame to just junk it.

Thanks in advance!

Got lots of weeds to deal with but I have an AC sickle bar mower that I figured I'd keep for use. Also have a large Bush Hog and 2 60" zero turn mowers so I think I have my weeds covered.

Of course, the theory among Volkswagon owners is you always need 2 (which we have at 74 and a 76) so maybe I need two sickle bars too :D

Nope, definitely just says Model 9. It's interesting that you mention the 40 and the 420 because when my dad was young and the farm was working, they had a 40. He wanted to get one to replace it about 2 years ago but couldn't find one he was happy with so he got a 51 (or maybe 57) model 420 that we have.... Right now I have a blade on it, but didn't know I could put this mower on it. Though, I don't forsee actually doing any work with the JD 420 because we have a Kubota backhoe with 3 pt. The JD he got more for play.

The 40 was first made as a 53 model with the 420 comming in 56 with the 430 following. If you have any weeds to mow put that mower on. The picture just looked a bit wide for a 9 but they might just not have put the w on the tag.

The Deere No. 9 mower was made for the 3 point hitch on the 40's-50's Ford or Ferguson tractors along with the Deere 40-420-430 tractors, late 50's made and a good mower, $100-$500 depending on if all brackets are with it and total condition. The No. 9 was for tractors with the narrow wleel tread and the 9W was for tractors with the wheels set wide for cultivating. They were also avaible with a rear pto shaft on to hook a hay conditioner in back and do 2 jobs at once.
