John Deere Plow - New Question

All - I have 2 questions..

1) How do you figure out what size of plow you have, such as "2-14"?

-> I have a 2 bottom pull type JD Plow (trip action)

-> Is there something that I can measure that would equate to 14"?

2) Is there any place on my plow that would tell me the model?

-> It has rubber wheels, spoke rims, a 3rd trailing wheel.
The plow works, I would like to paint it up and maybe replace a bearing and some of the moldboard (sp?) to make it better, but not sure the model and where to order parts for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Kevin

I was able to find some markings on the plow, the decals were just about gone, but I seen a "No 44" So, it looks like my plow is a model 44.

I have not had time to go measure to find out if its a 2-12, 2-14, etc. Still a little "fuzzy" on what to measure on the plow for that.

Does anyone have the book/manual for the plow, maybe I could get a copy of it?

Does anyone know where to buy parts, I need some parts for the moldboard.

Thanks!

Kevin

The No. 44 was made in three sizes with the small frame for 10" or 12" bottoms, verry few of these made. Then the mid size frame was for 12" or 14" bottoms while the large frame size was for 14" or 16" bottoms. This plow has flat steel beams instead of the curved molded beams as the older plows did and it is the only plow that I know of that John Deere made with an adjustable frame. They may have when new had a decal like that but buy the time I have seen them no sign of any decals left. The adjustable frame is measured different and from one beam to same spot on the other they will measure 11" for small frame, 13" for mid size frame and 15" for large frame and then to tell if the bottom on the frame is the small size the vertical part of the beams will be turned toward the center, if the large size to the outside, a 1/2" offset in each shank. All other non adjustable plows from a spot on one beam to like spot on next meam and that will be the size.

from the inside of 1 beam to the outside of the other beam will tell you what size your plow is. But with spoke rims and rubber tires, you could have a #44 plow that would be contvertible from 14" to 16" by removing and changing the placement of the shank that the moldboard fastens to. In that case it would have a decal on the cross brace that says, 16" frame.
