Do you think using an International 303 combine can be profitable for custom harvesting?

Combining runs about $20 an acre combinig around here. You will not get big customers. Much time will be spent on the road. An old combine will be too slow to make a profit. You might break even, not counting your time. If you count your time, you will lose money.

If you are asking about having some fun & combining a few 10 acre plots for 3-5 friends, you can break even and give you a reason to keep a machine. But if you mean make some real money, by the time you run it on some acres you'll be putting all the money back into belts & parts & fuel.

I'm not sure how it could be. They are much to slow to compete with todays modern combines. The only way I see it working is hitting up the other yuppies in the neighborhood and seeing if you can get them to pay. I think any big farmer that doesn't have a combine is going to want it done faster than a 303 can go.

Sure, in about 1962! I have an interest in old combines but just as a hobby and to cut a little each year with.

if you can keep it running and in good shape ,there might be some small farmers where you live that might want some done. but i dought you'll get rich. old self propelleds were gas hogs andmost people gave up that kind of small farming in the 70s or bought one of their own. and most around here are just letting the fields grow up in weeds waiting for the developers, instead of letting them be famed so they dont have to bother with farmer when it does sell .
