Just rescued a New Idea wagon from the cupola. What color were they? When I pull a wheel to put on newer rubber, I would like to paint the rims correctly. Anyone know if there is a New Idea web site?

We have a NI wagon, bought new in the late '60's. It is all green except for the wheels which are cream. So, i guess pick the vintage and go for it.

I have a New Idea wagon sales folder from the 1940s. The frame, axles, reach, bolsters, and tongue are "New Idea Orange," while the wheels are "New Idea green."
The orange looks about the same as slightly faded Case flambeau red. The green is probably a little darker than John Deere green, but not as dark as Oliver green. Your local AGCO dealer may have this paint, although I don't know that for sure. Agco now owns New Idea, and still makes some NI products, although the paint colors have changed.
At the time, the wagon gears were available with a 4" X 2 3/4" X 11'7" wooden horse tongue, or a 7'steel stub tongue with a compression spring for use with tractors.
Capacity was listed as 4000 pounds at speeds up to 20 MPH.

The old farmer on the other side of the town from us had a couple of New Idea silage boxes on NI gears. The boxes were green with orange lettering and orange front sections, and the gears were green. I can't recall for sure, but I think the wheels were orange. We used to have an old NI gear with spoked wheels that I know had a green frame, but there wasn't any paint left on the wheels, which had been cut down and had rims for tires welded in. That gear probably dated from the early '30s, may have been all green.
