I am looking for some checkwire that is still in good shape, and for a John Deere planter. Thanks!

Don't have any wire for you. Sorry.
BUT
I do now own a JD 290 planter with trip mechanism. Do you know any of the answers to my questions in the forum?
How can I find out how old my JD 290 planter is?

My dad bought a 290 new in the early '60s. I remember reading about check wire in the manual, but we nver went through the bother. We had an assortment of plates, I picked the plate that seed seemed to fit best. Then pulled the planter over the hard packed driveway to see what the seed spacing was like.

Don't ever back up with the planter tripped, and if you go through a mudhole get off and make sure the shoes are cleaned out and dropping seed ok. Use old oil or fuel oil on the fertilizer hoppers and associated gear when you are done.

If you got a long ways to go down the road, turn the hitch ball thingy upside down to get the packer wheels off the road and take the wheel drive chains off the sprocket.

Good little planter. If you ever get a picture...
