Part 1.

I was going over the baler and combining the best of two S66's I have and after going thru the manual it mentions a knife on the plunger...

Now I have sharpened the stationary knife on the bale chamber before but was going to set knife clearance between it and the plunger and was puzzled...

Is there an actual sharp knife on the plunger ?? I looked at both balers and they both just have a plate on the plunger...not remotely sharp held on by countersunk bolts....

Am i missing something here ??
Part 2.

I was going to rebuild the one knotter that wasnt working....has a lot of worn parts....I cycled it thru and its just shot...

What would be a rough cost replacing the billhooks, twine discs, strippers, ect??....I contacted the NH dealer and the entire assembly wasnt available..

Thanks

Dave

Just checked the 2 I have setting here and that plate you are refering to is the knife but instead of having an angle edge mine are a sharp edge 90* corner knife for against the angle of the other knife.

Ok. That plate you refer to on the plunger is the knife. It may not look sharp to you but if you look closely the edge that slides by the stationary knife is ground to a slight taper. Heat the nuts on the counter sunk bolts to get them out without having them round off then clean them bolts up with a wire wheel and lube them up with anti-seeze so they come out easy next time. sharpen the blade at the same angle as it is and reinstall. Set the clearence so it clicks as it slides by and you should get real nice bales. Those balers can do a real good job with every thing adjusted properly and sharp knives set real close.

The knotter frame itself is obsolete, but all the other parts that make up the knotter assembly are still on production balers, or the original part numbers sub to parts that will fit without other modifications. You can rebuild a good knotter frame with all new moving parts for about $300. Probably some of what you have can be re-used. This doesn't count the large cam gear that drives each knotter; it can be bought as well.
