Just got a John Deere model 51/52 plow (2 bottom). It throws the furrows to the left and right, and I'm new to this set up. It's a family piece, so we want to give it a go. What plowing tactics do you all reccomend? Still go all counter-clockwise, or back and forth?

Leroy - To be honest, I'm not 100% sure of the model # either. It is indeed a John Deere plow, two bottom, and two-way. One side has 51 cast into it, the other side has 52 cast into it. From looking through the photo gallery here on YT, I figured those were the model numbers. Looks like a model 52, but I'll post some pictures tonight and see what disscussion it brings.

First off you are mistaken on what you have, a 51 plow is a 1 bottom right hand throw only while the 52 is a 2 bottom right hand throw only. These are NOT two way plows but one way only. I have no idea what the model no. of your plow is but it is not one of these two models.A two way you start at one side of field and staying in furrow you just made turning around till you get to opposide of field.

Two-way plows are designed to use by starting on one side of the filed and going back and forth. All furrows get thrown in the same direction, no dead furrows. Turn 180 degrees at each end of the field.
