I saw a baler for sale along the highway and it is a Vermeer silage baler. Don't remember model number for sure (504 maybe) Is it foolish to buy this baler when I more than likely will not bale anything green unless it doesn't stop raining.

That baler was likely a 504 Super I with a Silage kit in it. It will bale dry hay all day long with no problems. 40 HP min with dry hay and 50 HP min with silage. Value is $5,000-$8,000 depending on features and condition.
Enjoy the rain because if you have water you have it made. It will stop raining a few days and you can put up the hay. If you have no rain you have no hay.

Bought my first round baler today. A Vermeer/Farmhand 504F. So is it a Farmhand or Vermeer brand? It was yellow at one time. I need a manual, can anyone give advice. Dealer also told me I can bale a 3ft-5ft roll. Is this true? I dont know anything about balers, obvious huh? It ran well in the lot, and appeared to be in good shape. Anybody know the year these were made. It had 7700 bales on counter.

I am enjoying the rain but am starting to get a little anxious. Yes I went by again today and it is the model you mentioned. What are features on a silage baler to look for?

Not much difference. The standard Super I baler will bale haylage with no problems. The silage option has an extra wiper knife on the tailgate. It has steel wiper knives instead of manolic wipers.
