I have a broadcast spreader that fit on the tailgate of a wagon and was driven by chain off the wagon axle. I want to rig it up to run off a 12v motor that I can then hook up to either a truck tailgate or tractor 3 point mount and use the vehicle 12 supply. What rpm should the spreader turn at? I think I saw McCormick on the spreader. Anybody know sources for a 12v motor that would work?

Tractor Supply sells a spreader that can be mounted on a tractor drawbar, truck bumper or on the back of an ATV. These spreaders have a !2V motor on them already ready to go, just hook to a battery and go, but maybe you want the fun of making one yourself.

That and hopefillu about $300 less expense. I hope to find a motor for under $50 and I should be able to scrounge the pulley.

Fertilizer speed should match ground speed (faster you drive, the faster it spreads...) so how do they match that up?

DC motor speed can be controlled by a reostat (I think thats right). Maybe set 2-3 speeds to cover most situations.

I know this is getting complicated and TSC is looking better.
