A neighbor used to bale with a 70 with a 5x5 baler so a 620 will probably work.

I have a 3650 Case IH and use a TW25 or 856 IH. If you have steep hills to climb or side hills to stay on it takes HP and weight to get something done safely. I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 560. My .02 of a Buck. On flat land you can get by with less.

NH recommends minimum 45 to run the big baler or small baler either one. What ever size hp you use just be sure it's heavy enough to be safe on slopes, and able to manuver safely with the baler.

I run an 845 NH with a 34hp Dexta. It's slower, but does just as good of a job as the 62hp Long we have.

Slow! I bet it is slow with 34hp and a round baler. I was pricing a new NH small square baler on monday. The dealer recommened 60hp for any new square baler. I was quite surprised to hear him say that. He said it was because the new balers run faster (more strokes per min.) We put up 2000 rounds a year using a JD 2640 (70pto), JD 2840 (80pto) and a Case 2090 (108pto). We use two JD 435 balers with net.

If your dealer told you that, then he's crazy. NH recomends a minimum of 35 pto hp for the 565 square baler, 62 pto hp for a 570, 75 pto hp for a 575, and 80 pto hp for a 580. Round balers were rated at(The "4" series anyway, don't know the new specs for the "8" series) 40 pto hp for the 634 model, 60 pto hp for 644 model, 65 pto hp for the 654 model, and 80 pto hp for the 664 model. And remember, these are the newer balers. The older smaller ones (68, 268, 270, 273, etc.) didn't take near as much power...well..I wouldn't want to bale with anything under 35 hp, or maybe 30 if it was a really small square baler like an old Deere 14t, or NH 66, or 68. I've got a friend who bales with a Ford 3000 and a Krone 4x5 round and he manages just fine....and this is in hill country too.
