My disc harrow has 12, 16 in. notched disc's in the front row, and 12 18 in. solid disc's in the back row. Does anyone know why it is set up this way? Should I replace the front row with 18 in. disc's? Why are the notched disc's in front? Thanks for any help. Ace

Ace, It is very possible the front gang blades are worn to the 16" dia., as the front gang have to cut the firmer soil then the back gang. The notched blades are more agressive then smooth, or "round" blades. If the blades are in good condition, I would not change them, just adjust the disk to get a smooth finish behind it.
