I have a property of about 3 acres that all of the trees have been removed. The ground has alot of holes, ruts and not very smooth or level. I've been told that I need to get a boxscraper. Is this what I need? How do they work? What kind is good for my needs? I have a small Kubota tractor Model 2200 with a loader and 3pt hitch. I was told that I couldn't use anything larger than a 4 or maybe 5 foot boxscraper. Any help would be appreciated.

Last week a friend and I used 2 Ford 8Ns on the quarter-mile-long leveling of the trail pictured here.

The key in our situation was PLOWING the sod first with a dearborn 2-14 plow, then discing then the backblade, then the rake, etc. All Kingcutter implements that are plenty heavy duty.

Working both tractors together plowing and discing at once was effective and fun. HTH

Mike, I don't think that your tractor can handle bigger than a 4 ft boxscraper. That will be one tough job to work 3 acres with a boxscraper. might work better if you would disc it first. I had a farmer disc a lot for me. You might check around your area. Hope this helps

A box scraper would definately be slow going at leveling 3 acres. I agree with Enery's good advise. A disc won't "level" the ground as well but it will certainly remove any ruts and holes that you have. You would likely fill a box scraper rather fast and be moving small amounts of dirt for a LONG time.

I just bought a boxscraper and really like mine. A box scraper is simply described as a back blade with sideboards on it. It holds material and allows you to scrape down the highs while filling in the lows.

They also come with scarfer teeth that tear up the hard ground/roots and make it much easier to grade hard ground.

My tractor is a MF-2135 with about 35 hp. I pull a 72" Landpride boxscraper and it is the right size for it.

Landpride is a great buy when comparing price to quality. If you want an implement to use, buy good quality and you won't be sorry. The Landpride has 7 adjustable scarfer teeth when other units of like size only have 4 to 6. The welds are better, the steel is thicker and the paint is electrically bonded to the steel so it will stay looking good for years.

A box scraper is used much like a back blade but it doesn't spill material off the ends. That allows you to move material around where you need it.
