I have an 9N and a model 14-10 sicklebar. I've never used this implement. Any suggestions on how to hook it up, maintain it and operate it would be greatly appreciated.

CC:
Just did this about 2 months ago with a Ford 515 sicklebar and my '48 8N.

First stop is to get an operator's manual (Real artillerymen use their '-10s').

New Holland pubs sells reprints for about $7. Their phone # is 800-635-4913...they've given me very good service for 3 different manuals.

Getting it to cut is a true learning experience...when it works well it is a work of art. Unfortunately, getting there takes awhile. Make sure teeth are sharp and guides are tight (mine had several without lock washers, and they'd come loose every 15 minutes.) You have to match tractor and PTO speed to the type of grass/hay you're mowing. Manual will tell you how to do it, then experiment. I have to use 3 different speeds for each of my 3 fields.

Good luck,
Tom (U.S. Army Cannon Cocker, retired)
