I just got back from what I thought was a steal of a deal. A fella advertized a loader for an 8n for $50. It was slightly greenish brown (possibly from humidity) but had some intact red paint underneath. Anyways it had the pump at the front ready to hitch to the tractor cranchshaft(?). I spun it and it was free and had no play and what felt like normal drag for a hydrolic pump. I had visions of sandblasting and painting and putting it on the old 9N but seems someone beat me there and bought it first. It was a dearborn model 19-8. How much would one in good shape go for and can a guy get the pump and parts to hook it up to an n series easily. At $50 I knew I couldn't go wrong. The metal was oxidized a bit but not excessively rusted. I would like to pick up a small loader at reasonable cost (hence used is practical) any suggestions as to brands an how to find. Sorry about the rambling

Joel,

Yup, you lost out on a steal. One in usable condition would probably fetch $500. The front mount pump operates a lot quicker than running a line from the 3-point with arms tied down.

Paulsen or Paulson makes a little loader for the N. I think it's about $1000 or a little more. There have been a couple used loaders advertised (Dearborns and Wagners) but you can bet they'll be at the opposite end of the country when and if you find one.

You might try salvage yards. Many knowledgeable N folks think a loader is a good way to put an N into one as it really wasn't designed for that.

YUP, I agree. those loaders on N tractors is a lot of stress and weight. Tough on front ends, look for a hairline crack or two somewhere's on the chassis unit, and expect to wear the front end depending on how much use and over how much time.
