I was wondering if anyone out there knew the approximate value of a better than average Ford 515 mower with 7' bar.I was interested in any info regarding the overall quality and parts availability for this machine .I am planning on mounting it on a 1390 Case tractor. Kevin in Kidder,Mo.

Hi:

I recently "inherited" a 515 with a property we purchased, and have been busy rehabilitating it for this season's hay. My first broken part (lift spring) was listed "obsolete", but new teeth and rock guards are readily available. My New Holland dealer (S&H Farm Supply, Lockwood, MO) has been helpful locating parts. I've seen used ones listed at dealers for around $900 and up. I purchased the parts manuals for the 515 on the internet at the New Holland North America parts website. I use mine on a New Holland 1920 (33 HP) and it works just fine. If you get it hooked up and running, drop me a line back, I have a few questions for you about how you attached it to your tractor.

Good luck,

Brian

JUST SO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE MIGHT NEED TO KNOW!! MOWER MODEL 515,, THE LIFT SPRING IS LISTED AS OBSOLETE HOWEVER "GEAL" EQUIPMENT MAKES A MOWER FOR A 3 PT. HITCH THAT USES A LIFT SPRING THAT IS ALMOST AN EXACT REPLACEMENT. THE ORGINAL METAL BAR THAT IS USED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH ONE IS 9 INCHES LONGER ON THE THREADED END.

I'm in Western Maryland, bought a 515 about 2 months ago at auction for $435. It is in very good condition, though was missing the mounting hardware, and the 'end section' had been replaced with a 'normal' section that caused me a clogging problem 'til my neighbor pointed out the problem.

Prices on sicklebars apparently vary greatly depending on where you are, so my price may not help you much.

FYI, New Holland sells reprints of the owner's manual, which has been helpful. $7 from NH publications. NH also sells parts (got the end section, delivered to the house, for $9...$5 of that was shipping)

So far, I'm happy with it. good luck,
Tom
